IOM Engineering Manager

Our client is seeking a skilled Engineering Manager to lead a team of qualified engineers in the Isle of Man responsible for the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of mobile, data, fixed, and broadband infrastructure for both consumer and business sectors. This full-time managerial role requires strong technical expertise, a focus on project delivery, and excellent leadership skills to support optimal network performance. Job Duties: 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers focused on network deployment, optimisation, and maintenance
  • Manage team resources, balancing project workload, ongoing support, and individual training needs
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and skill assessments for team members
  • Oversee engineering projects related to mobile, data, fixed, and broadband networks, ensuring timely, within-budget delivery
  • Collaborate with product, sales, and service departments to align engineering projects with business needs
  • Provide technical guidance for local network infrastructure design and optimisation, working with the network design authority
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to minimise customer service disruptions
  • Monitor network performance and implement improvements to enhance service quality
  • Liaise with interconnect partners and ensure service levels are consistently met
  • Manage the CTIO budget for the Isle of Man, including capex and opex control
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to support business growth targets and external resources
  • Work with engineering and local infrastructure providers to drive cost optimisation and commercial growth
  • Promote a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders on project status, risks, and dependencies
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies
  • Investigate security alerts and support business continuity processes


Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Network certifications are highly desirable
  • Management qualification is highly desirable
  • Experience in engineering management, ideally in telecoms (mobile, data, fixed-line, broadband)
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing multiple projects
  • Technical expertise in telecom infrastructure, including mobile networks (2G, 4G, 5G), broadband (Fibre, GPON), and fixed-line voice networks
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Knowledge of network design, deployment, and optimisation techniques
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Results-oriented with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Compliance understanding, including licence and regulatory rules
  • Knowledge of data protection and health and safety regulations
