AVP, Operational Risk Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced AVP, Operational Risk Manager to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This strategic role is responsible for developing and maintaining operational risk frameworks, supporting regulatory compliance, and embedding a strong risk culture across the organisation. The successful candidate will lead the incident management process, complaints handling, business continuity strategies, and risk reporting, while acting as a trusted advisor to business units. This is a high-impact position offering the opportunity to influence risk awareness and operational resilience at a senior level.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the operational risk incident process from identification through to resolution, including root-cause analysis and control improvements
  • Oversee complaints handling, assessing trends and ensuring timely resolution within policy thresholds
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive RCSA programme
  • Design and deliver KRI dashboards and operational risk reports to senior management and risk committees
  • Ensure policies and procedures are current, communicated, and adhered to across the business
  • Maintain and enhance business continuity strategies and crisis management protocols
  • Provide risk oversight and guidance to business units, embedding risk awareness into day-to-day operations
  • Undertake local initiatives and projects to strengthen the operational risk framework
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of operational risk procedures and alignment with group strategy
  • Deliver training and workshops on operational risk, incident reporting, and business continuity
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive operational efficiency and risk mitigation
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge through regular training on operational risk and regulatory matters

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in risk management within financial services or a regulated environment
  • Strong knowledge of operational risk management principles, including Basel standards and GRC platforms
  • Familiarity with Channel Islands regulations and GFSC requirements, ideally with experience in Guernsey or similar jurisdictions
  • Solid understanding of internal control frameworks and risk assessment methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills
