Business Control Officer

Our client is seeking a Business Control Officer to provide practical assistance, support, and advice to Relationship Managers associated with trusts, company administration, and trustees on compliance-related matters. This role will act as the first line of defence for the Relationship Managers and liaise with Risk and Compliance as needed. The position also involves managing a small team that provides operational compliance support to the Family Office Isle of Man and occasionally supporting Family Office teams in other jurisdictions.

Job Duties:

  • Work with Relationship Managers, assistants, and Business Heads to build and strengthen relationships with Risk and Compliance.
  • Act as the First Line of Defence for Relationship Managers and Business Heads, liaising with Risk and Compliance and occasionally Audit.
  • Review and manage records related to conflicts of interest, breaches, complaints, and operational incidents.
  • Record and monitor exceptions, recommendations, and regulatory matters requiring resolution.
  • Prepare new and assist Relationship Managers with Customer Risk Assessments, including performing Risk Screen pro checks.
  • Report material risk matters to Risk and Compliance, assisting in addressing and mitigating them.
  • Provide effective training and refresher training to Relationship Managers and business heads on compliance and AML/CFT matters.
  • Review and develop technical and compliance skills of Front Office employees.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to ensure New Business Approval Committee workflows are correctly updated and risk assessments are conducted.
  • Ensure the database is updated when EDD/SDD is applied or if any PEP connection is identified during onboarding or the client lifecycle.
  • Attend quarterly jurisdictional Risk & Compliance Committee meetings.
  • Assist with AML/CFT project and risk action items.
  • Support regulatory board submissions related to jurisdictional regulatory data requests.
  • Suggest relevant policies, procedures, and workflow solutions and coordinate with Risk & Compliance for implementation.
  • Work with Business Heads to draft or update operating procedures in accordance with updated policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and streamline the Front Office section of the Hub, ensuring all processes, guidance notes, and policies are kept updated.
  • Assess the impact of new laws, regulations, and compliance risks on current policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with Group Head BCO’s on cross-border AML/CFT issues and suggest improvements to Group AML/CFT processes.
  • Attend the monthly Centre of Excellence BCO meeting.

Job Requirements:

  • Sound experience within the Financial Services Industry, particularly the fiduciary sector.
  • A well-developed knowledge of relevant legislation and regulation.
  • Exposure to operational functions would be an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • At least 8 years of experience in the finance industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, able to collaborate with individuals at all levels.
  • Highly organised with a systematic work method and attention to detail.
  • Flexible and able to multitask, setting appropriate priorities and adhering to deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel).
  • Confidence to deliver practical compliance advice, balancing risk management and commercial considerations.
  • Proven experience in a challenging and fast-moving environment, preferably across multiple jurisdictions with complex products.
