Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Underwriter to join their Insurance Division on a permanent, full-time basis. This senior-level role is responsible for setting underwriting strategy, leading technical underwriters and senior claims assessors, and overseeing complex life and disability claims. Reporting to the Head of Customer Services, the successful candidate will ensure alignment between underwriting practices, business objectives, and the company’s risk appetite.
Job Duties:
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of technical underwriters and senior claims assessors
- Define and implement underwriting and claims strategies aligned with business goals
- Oversee and approve complex, high-value life and disability cases and claims
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and best industry practices
- Collaborate with actuarial, legal and product development teams on case design and risk assessment
- Provide training and technical support to brokers, clients, and third-party agencies
- Maintain ownership of reinsurance relationships and treaty documentation
- Drive innovation and operational efficiency across underwriting and claims functions
- Represent underwriting and claims at management-level meetings and strategic forums
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years' experience in life and disability underwriting, including 5 years in a senior leadership role across international markets
- Strong technical knowledge of international life insurance products and high-net-worth underwriting
- Experience overseeing claims assessment processes and resolving complex cases
- Proven leadership and team development capabilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage in technical discussions with key stakeholders
- Familiarity with offshore regulatory environments and cross-border insurance solutions is advantageous
- Relevant underwriting and/or medical qualifications
