Senior Payments Technician

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a new permanent, full-time team member within their Payments Team based in Douglas. Reporting to the Payments Manager, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for processing a variety of company payments and expenses. As a Senior Payments Technician, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the team. The role requires overseeing the verification and authorisation of payments, maintaining robust system controls, and ensuring that business-as-usual (BAU) activities are delivered to the highest standards. You will also act as a key escalation point, mentor team members, and deputise for the Payments Manager when necessary.

Job Duties:

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in outward payments, banking platforms, journaling, and MI reporting.
  • Support the Payments Manager in the daily running of the team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all payments and receipts.
  • Maintain and enhance system controls, identifying and implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Analyse management information (MI) to identify trends, reduce risk, and improve internal processes and customer experience.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with banking partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and support to team members, ensuring high standards of accuracy and performance.
  • Represent the team in meetings and projects, contributing technical expertise and leadership.
  • Confidently manage workloads and priorities in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ operational experience in payments and accounts payable.
  • Expert user of banking platforms or similar.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Experience mentoring others and leading by example.
