Our client is seeking a Paralegal / Legal Clerk to provide legal expertise and support across the group, primarily focusing on the finance sector. This is a full-time position with working hours from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The role requires someone with at least three years of experience in either a finance or commercial field, gained in a law practice or the finance industry.
Job Duties:
- Anticipate legal issues and evaluate risks strategically.
- Assist in the appointment and management of external legal firms, fostering effective partnerships to ensure quality and value-driven advice for client structures.
- Refine and develop a suite of standard legal documents and agreements.
- Conduct due diligence on loans and review and draft term sheets and loan agreements with funders, as well as with end borrowers when external firms are not retained.
- Liaise with the administration team in Guernsey.
- Assist with legal work concerning private equity structures and fiduciary services.
- Support internal legal work in the business, including committee minutes and regulatory issues.
- Ensure compliance with changes in legislation and the regulatory environment, updating funder and borrower agreements as required.
- Assist in the analysis of risks for new business take-ons and help identify and mitigate risks regarding new loan executions.
- Interpret laws and regulations, implementing corresponding policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislative changes and understand external influences on the business.
- Collaborate with clients and the compliance team to collate relevant information.
- Demonstrate effective teamwork skills while working closely with the admin team in Guernsey to complete individual and team milestones.
- Present periodic reports to the Board.
Job Requirements:
- Relevant legal qualification.
- A minimum of three years' experience in a finance or commercial field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues and clients at all levels.
- Ability to convey complex legal matters in straightforward, practical terms.
