Facilities Technical Engineer

Our client is seeking a Facilities Technical Engineer to ensure that critical areas are operated and maintained in accordance with industry standards at all times. This role is essential for carrying out daily data centre walk rounds to ensure compliance with internal policies and service level agreements. The postholder will escalate any issues via the appropriate channels as required, aiming for swift resolution. The engineer will be responsible for the planned preventative maintenance of critical power and cooling systems and will maintain updated records. Duties include the isolation and de-isolation of alarms and fire suppression systems while monitoring these systems during isolation and coordinating with sub-contractors. The successful candidate will assist with the maintenance of other mechanical and electrical services as needed and ensure that all contractors are authorised and following the current permit to work system.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct daily data centre walk rounds to ensure critical areas comply with internal policies and meet SLAs
  • Escalate issues via the SNOW ticketing system and ensure timely resolutions
  • Maintain and update records for planned preventative maintenance of critical power and cooling systems
  • Manage the isolation/de-isolation of alarms and fire suppression systems
  • Inform relevant personnel about technical issues and escalate necessary matters
  • Assist with the maintenance of other mechanical and electrical services
  • Authorise contractors working in critical areas in line with the permit to work system
  • Perform isolation of equipment as required to issue permits to work
  • Identify and execute basic repairs within the estate, such as lighting and loose ceiling tiles
  • Create and issue payment requests for third-party contractors, approving final payments upon task completion
  • Conduct weekly fire alarm bell testing across Guernsey sites and record findings
  • Monitor the Zendesk ticketing system and allocate works internally and to contractors
  • Execute monthly on-load generator runs and report any issues via the Zendesk system
  • Collect and report monthly power readings to the Facilities Manager

Job Requirements:

  • Essential experience in a critical equipment environment
  • Understanding of power distribution systems
  • Ability to isolate systems relevant to the permit to work, including fire suppression systems and alarms
  • Proficient knowledge of data centre structure and power cabling
  • Competence in managing workloads
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with relevant parts of the business
  • Ability to work independently to achieve short-term goals
  • Positive, proactive, and professional attitude
  • Proficient in using business computer systems, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid driving licence
  • Willingness and ability to be part of a standby rota
