Actuarial Trainee Graduate

Our client has a permanent position available within their Actuarial department for an Actuarial Trainee. This role is based in the Isle of Man and is ideal for a highly numerate graduate holding a degree in a mathematical or related subject. The successful candidate will be part of a small team but is expected to demonstrate the ability to work independently. In this role, the applicant will undertake various tasks spanning areas such as pricing and product development, regulatory and internal reporting, as well as actuarial liability modelling. There will be opportunities to contribute to the company's growth through involvement in diverse project work. The main focus of the position includes supporting both external and internal reporting, while also developing and maintaining actuarial models and systems. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience and skills essential for their progression within the actuarial field.

Job Duties:

  • Support external reporting by assisting in the production of valuations to appropriate standards and within agreed timescales.
  • Assist in internal financial reporting, including experience investigations to appropriate standards and in line with agreed methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain actuarial liability models, checking data extract routines and maintaining appropriate documentation.
  • Take an active role in maintaining and developing illustration systems.
  • Provide actuarial support to product development and pricing exercises.
  • Provide actuarial support to project work as and when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Educated to honours degree level (at least second class division 1) in a mathematical or related subject, with a proven track record of strong exam performance in mathematical subjects.
  • Meet the requirements to join the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries as a student member (or equivalent body) or be an existing member.
  • Experience of Excel, including the use of VBA, would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to technical detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the company.
  • A proactive self-starter who demonstrates initiative while seeking support when necessary.
  • Capable of writing reports to a high standard.
