Financial Crime Prevention Specialist

Our client is seeking a Financial Crime Prevention Specialist to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the organisation from financial crime, regulatory sanctions, and reputational damage. This position is integral to the framework of risk management, where the successful candidate will hold the R16 (DMLRO) Controlled Function. The specialist will influence decision-making at all levels and ensure compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism legislation. Responsibilities include supporting the Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Chief Compliance Officer in maintaining the integrity of the risk and governance environment within the organisation. This role is full-time, with working hours to be discussed during the interview process. The ideal candidate will possess a depth of knowledge in financial crime legislation and demonstrate a commitment to upholding regulatory standards across jurisdictions.

Job Duties:

  • Act as an Approved Person undertaking the R16 DMLRO Controlled Function, including making disclosures and liaising with financial crime agencies.
  • Lead the submission of Suspicious Activity Reports and oversee any resulting law enforcement orders.
  • Maintain and enhance the Group’s financial crime risk management framework with appropriate controls across all jurisdictions.
  • Interpret legislation and regulatory changes, ensuring timely implementation of AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, and related obligations.
  • Develop and embed AML/CFT policies, procedures, and risk-based monitoring aligned with the Group’s scale and complexity.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for regulatory consultations, Compliance Assurance Reviews, and key strategic projects.
  • Support due diligence for business integrations and major initiatives.
  • Produce internal AML/CFT reporting and contribute to the annual Group AML/CFT Board Report.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with regulators, law enforcement, internal teams, and external stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

  • Deep knowledge of AML/CFT and financial crime legislation, including the duties of a DMLRO in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Significant experience (2–5+ years) in a senior financial crime prevention role, ideally already approved for the R16 controlled function.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory risk across technical and operational domains.
  • Experience working in multi-jurisdictional financial services environments, ideally in life and investments.
  • Proven ability to deliver credible subject-matter expertise, manage change, and support continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills—able to challenge constructively, provide commercial insights, and build trust at all levels.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills, strong organisational skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g., ICA Diploma) or commitment to achieving such within 18 months.
  • Demonstrates independence, integrity, and sound professional judgement.
