Our client is seeking a Trade Assistant to provide essential administrative, operational, and analytical support to the Proteins team. This role is designed to ensure the smooth execution of day-to-day trading activities, including contract administration, communication with internal departments, maintenance of market data, and coordination of logistical information. The Trade Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Proteins Team by ensuring accurate record-keeping, timely information flow, and high-quality operational support. This position offers an excellent entry point into agricultural commodity trading, with opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of commercial operations, markets, and the full trade lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with various teams to maintain effective processes and contribute to seamless trading operations.
Job Duties:
- Take orders from customers for derivative hedging.
- Update position reports.
- Assist Traders in managing physical trade operations and contract administration.
- Prepare, update, and maintain trade documentation, including purchase and sales contracts.
- Support the team in monitoring and updating position reports, pricing sheets, and trading systems.
- Coordinate communication between Traders and internal support functions (Operations, Finance, Logistics, etc.).
- Assist with customer onboarding, account updates, and documentation requirements.
- Work closely with Operations and Logistics teams to ensure accurate execution details are captured and communicated.
- Track shipment schedules and key contract milestones.
- Ensure timely entry of contract data, amendments, and shipment information into internal systems.
- Support resolution of operational queries and discrepancies.
- Monitor and reconcile trade positions.
- Assist with basic market data collection, trend monitoring, and report preparation.
- Support Traders with supply/demand data updates and market intelligence gathering.
- Maintain spreadsheets and simple analytical tools used for commercial decision-making.
- Liaise professionally with suppliers, customers, freight teams, and internal departments.
- Support Traders during internal and external meetings by preparing relevant documentation and follow-up notes.
- Help maintain effective information feedback loops to ensure all relevant parties are aligned.
Job Requirements:
- Preference for candidates with a Commercial, Business, Finance, or related qualification.
- Experience in an administrative, operations, or support role within a commercial or supply chain environment is beneficial.
- Prior exposure to trading, commodities, logistics, or agriculture is an advantage but not essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Proactive, reliable, and capable of working both independently and within a team.
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP/trading systems is an advantage.
- Analytical mindset with a willingness to learn and develop commercial knowledge.
