Junior Credit Underwriter, Structured Finance

Our client is seeking a Junior Credit Underwriter to contribute to their Structured Finance Credit Team. This role offers a structured development path towards full underwriting competence, encompassing training in credit analysis, portfolio management, and structured finance frameworks. The position supports lending secured against receivables, block discounting facilities, and asset-backed structures, catering to UK and IOM wholesale customers. The job holder will assess and analyse financial and credit information, providing recommendations for lending in line with the Bank's credit appetite and policies. Responsibilities include evaluating new and existing structured finance credit proposals, conducting assessments based on financial and non-financial performance indicators, and collaborating with the wider Credit Team on both commercial and personal lending. This is a full-time role with standard hours from 9 am to 5 pm.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare assessments based on the creditworthiness and risk of a counterparty.
  • Evaluate a customer’s credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in lending, making recommendations to senior management.
  • Analyse audited accounts, management information, forecast cash flow, budget planners, and open banking data.
  • Conduct annual credit reviews of structured finance customers, recommending appropriate financial and non-financial covenants and security structures.
  • Monitor portfolio performance trends and escalate early warning indicators in line with structured finance policy.
  • Build and maintain flexible working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assess and approve credit proposals within delegated authority, making recommendations to the Credit Committee when necessary.
  • Keep abreast of the Group's lending protocols and ensure compliance with internal credit-related policies.
  • Engage in ongoing learning to build technical underwriting expertise and adhere to service levels.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar role within banking or asset finance industries is essential.
  • Strong ability to analyse credit applications using financial statements, cash flow, credit reference agency searches, and company registries.
  • Understanding of the relevant UK and IOM regulatory requirements related to credit facilities provision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing at all levels.
  • Strong verbal and numerical skills, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in planning and organisational skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Numerate and proficient in MS Office, with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • A professional, conscientious approach with knowledge of block discounting and structured finance products being an advantage, yet not essential.
