Finance Business Partner

The Finance Business Partner will collaborate closely with senior leaders across the organisation to deliver commercial insights, provide constructive challenges, and offer robust financial support aimed at enhancing decision-making and overall business performance. This position will serve the operating divisions and certain cross-business functions, offering leadership in performance management, planning, business case development, governance, and financial analysis. The role is essential in shaping both strategic and operational decisions, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately, and maximising commercial outcomes in alignment with the organisation’s objectives. The Finance Business Partner will be instrumental in driving improvements in profitability, cash flow, and risk management through informed decision-making. As a key advisor, the postholder's insights will influence both short-term and long-term business strategies.

Job Duties:

  • Act as the finance business partner for operating divisions with a special focus on Customer Operations and sales, addressing all key financial aspects, including revenue, cost of sales, operating expenditure, capital expenditure, and cash flow.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders, including members of the Executive Committee and their leadership teams, to provide insightful analyses and clear commercial recommendations.
  • Lead financial evaluations of commercial initiatives such as pricing proposals, customer and product profitability, supplier negotiations, capital investments, and strategic projects.
  • Develop comprehensive business cases and ensure sound financial governance for key decisions, including bids, product launches, investment proposals, and significant changes.
  • Drive performance management through regular reviews, analyses of outcomes against budgets and forecasts, and identification of actions to improve performance.
  • Analyse business performance to discern trends, risks, and opportunities, employing scenario modelling and 'what if' analysis to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Develop meaningful KPIs and management information for the supported areas, ensuring timely and accurate reporting focused on key performance drivers.
  • Collaborate with finance and technology teams to enhance, standardise, and automate reporting processes, reducing reliance on ad hoc analyses when feasible.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing financial processes, systems, controls, and working practices across the organisation.
  • Contribute to creating a high-performance, commercially-focused finance function that aligns with the organisation's goals.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a commercial finance, finance business partnering, or decision support role.
  • Strong track record of influencing business decisions and enhancing financial and commercial performance.
  • Excellent financial modelling, analytical, and problem-solving skills, capable of translating data into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Robust stakeholder management skills with the credibility to constructively challenge senior leaders.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, performance reporting, business case development, and investment appraisal.
  • Good understanding of commercial drivers, governance, and risk management within a complex business setting.
  • Experience in the energy, utilities, infrastructure, or regulated/asset-intensive sectors would be advantageous.
