Employment Lawyer

This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded employment practice, providing comprehensive advice to a diverse range of local and international clients on all aspects of Jersey employment, discrimination, and data protection law. The position is ideal for a talented lawyer eager to contribute to the ongoing development of the practice, collaborating closely with partners and colleagues on intricate and engaging legal matters. Previous experience in employment and discrimination law is preferred, along with a strong interest in this area. The Employment Lawyer will handle a variety of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, ensuring high-quality advisory services are consistently delivered. This position offers opportunities for client training, business development, thought leadership, and contributing to the growth of the practice. A mix of independent file management and teamwork is integral to this role, coupled with strong client relationships and communication skills.

Job Duties:

  • Advise employers and senior executives on a variety of employment matters, including:
  • Employment contracts, policies, and procedures
  • Disciplinary and grievance matters
  • Performance management and workplace investigations
  • Redundancies, restructurings, and business transfers
  • Discrimination and employee relations issues
  • Compromise agreements
  • Employment and Discrimination Tribunal proceedings
  • Regulatory and data protection issues affecting the workplace
  • Contribute to business development and client training
  • Engage in thought leadership to support the practice's growth

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer with a strong technical knowledge of employment law
  • Excellent drafting skills and experience managing files independently
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • Commercial awareness with a pragmatic problem-solving ability
  • Proactive approach to business development and networking
  • Admission in Jersey, England & Wales, or another recognised common law jurisdiction (or eligibility to practise in Jersey)
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with a detail-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Professional, discreet, and aware of confidentiality requirements in a law firm
  • Collaborative and adaptable with strong problem-solving abilities
