Human Resource & Payroll Manager

This position is focused on supporting the development and implementation of the strategic business plan with an emphasis on delivering efficient and compliant HR and payroll services. The role is based in Guernsey and reports to the Operations Director. Responsibilities include effective management of the HR and payroll team, with a focus on delivering HR and payroll services to crew members across hundreds of superyachts globally. The role involves ensuring compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 and other regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will identify and address deficiencies through reporting and corrective actions. Daily responsibilities include managing payroll processes, onboarding new clients, and maintaining adherence to payment schedules. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to respond to queries in a timely manner. Additionally, the role encompasses strategic planning to align departmental objectives and monitor legislative changes.

Job Duties:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR and Payroll team through regular meetings and clear communication.
  • Manage performance appraisals and implement training and development initiatives for the department.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely production of monthly payrolls.
  • Ensure payment schedules are adhered to and conduct daily checks for timely processing.
  • Resolve payroll and invoice queries promptly and professionally.
  • Hold accountability for payroll processing accuracy and compliance within the payroll system.
  • Liaise with relevant government agencies on regulatory matters.
  • Prepare and present reports for quarterly Board Meetings and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate to plan departmental objectives and resource allocation.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven leadership and team management experience with the ability to inspire a high-performing team.
  • Strong understanding of HR and payroll processes, particularly in an international or maritime context.
  • Knowledge of Guernsey Data Protection Law (DPL) or equivalent GDPR regulations.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a track record of delivering accurate, on-time payrolls.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, including the Recruitment & Placement Agent section of the MLC 2006.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to liaise confidently with clients and government authorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
