This role involves providing critical system and project support within the Systems Support and Development department. Seeking a bright and analytical problem-solver, the individual will work closely with the systems development team on analysis, design, and development tasks. The position is permanent, preferably full-time with flexibility for the right candidate. Based in Guernsey, this role is office-based, although remote or hybrid arrangements may be considered. The successful candidate will investigate and resolve issues while building practical tools and solutions using Excel, SQL, and/or programming languages such as R or Python. Strong analytical aptitude and the ability to learn new technical skills quickly are essential. The organisation encourages candidates with a structured approach and sound working practices, irrespective of their prior experience.
Job Duties:
- Analyse complex data and system issues to identify root causes and trends, and numerically replicate outcomes from first principles.
- Design and build practical tools using Excel, SQL, R, or Python.
- Investigate and resolve reported issues by collaborating with users and technical teams, utilising SQL and reporting tools.
- Support testing of system enhancements through to release stages.
- Document findings and resolutions clearly, communicating progress and outcomes to stakeholders in a comprehensible manner.
- Opportunity to take on leadership roles within systems support and contribute to wider systems development and research work.
Job Requirements:
- Strong analytical and quantitative reasoning abilities, high numeracy, and logical skills with a capability to tackle unfamiliar problems from first principles.
- Quick learner with the comfort to pick up new tools and technical skills; experience with Excel, SQL, R, or Python is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Evidence of structured, well-documented, and well-tested work practices from any relevant background.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly to non-technical audiences, complemented by a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Strong academic record in a numerate, technical, or analytical discipline is desirable; however, exceptional graduates seeking to start their careers will also be considered.
