Our client is seeking a full-time Pilot Manager based in Guernsey to join their Flight Operations team. Reporting to the Head of Flight Operations, this role is responsible for leading and supporting a team of pilots, ensuring the highest standards in performance, engagement, compliance, and alignment with company culture. The role includes responsibility for pilot recruitment, onboarding, welfare, discipline, and development, along with managing departmental communication, procedures, and HR policy application. This is a Monday to Friday position, 35 hours per week, with flexibility required for weekend and out-of-hours commitments based on operational needs.
Job Duties:
- Line manage a team of pilots, remaining highly visible and accessible
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, development, and departure processes for pilots
- Maintain pilot establishment levels in line with operational requirements
- Monitor pilot attendance and take appropriate action to maintain standards
- Deliver the Balance Score Card annual appraisal process for pilots
- Drive pilot engagement and manage performance, workflow, quality, and compliance
- Foster alignment of pilots with company culture and values
- Manage conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and performance issues in line with procedures
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote change through education and engagement
- Maintain a Local Procedures Manual to demonstrate compliance monitoring of operational safety requirements
- Carry out other duties as delegated by the Head of Flight Operations
Job Requirements:
- Experience in writing operational manuals, notices, or instructions
- Previous line management experience within a multi-faceted department
- Experience in a customer-focused role
- Collaborative approach to achieving cross-departmental outcomes
- Experience managing complex employee matters in line with legislation
- Flexible and adaptable approach to evolving situations
- Calm, patient, and supportive people management style
- Strong listening skills with empathy and understanding of staff concerns
- Experience in conflict resolution
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple evolving tasks
- Familiarity with company policies and procedures, and ability to apply them effectively
- Understanding of the Guernsey working environment and island culture
- 3+ years at managerial level (Desirable)
- Coaching and mentoring skills (Desirable)
- Local status to live and work in Guernsey
- Five years of employment history and satisfactory Basic Police Disclosure (for Airside pass application)
