Our client is seeking a Head of Financial Crime & MLRO to lead their Financial Crime function on a full-time, permanent basis in the Isle of Man. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial crime compliance across the Group, including its regulated and non-regulated entities. You will act as MLRO for the relevant Isle of Man-licensed entities and provide support to operations in Jersey and South Africa, ensuring the Group’s compliance with anti-money laundering (AML), countering the financing of terrorism (CFT), and other applicable regulations.
Job Duties:
- Lead and manage the Financial Crime function across the Group and its subsidiaries
- Act as MLRO and fulfil controlled function requirements as applicable
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the Group’s financial crime strategy and policies
- Promote compliance with Isle of Man and other relevant laws and regulations
- Oversee financial crime frameworks relating to AML, CFT, CPF, fraud prevention and countering tax evasion
- Provide expert guidance, oversight and challenge on financial crime matters across the Group
- Represent the function at Board, Risk and Compliance Committees and provide appropriate reporting
- Collaborate with senior management to ensure financial crime risks are addressed in business strategy
- Work with Compliance, Risk and Internal Audit to ensure alignment across the three lines of defence
- Assess and update Financial Crime Risk Appetite Statements and tolerances
- Investigate suspicious activity reports (SARs) and ensure timely reporting to authorities
- Maintain accurate records of investigations and financial crime-related activity
- Provide subject matter expertise and support to operational projects and regulatory interactions
- Conduct risk assessments and monitor the effectiveness of controls and procedures
- Lead, develop and manage the Financial Crime Team, promoting high standards and staff development
- Design and deliver financial crime training programmes across the Group
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators and law enforcement
- Attend industry body meetings and represent the Group where required
Job Requirements:
- Recognised qualification in AML, compliance or financial crime (e.g. ICA Diploma), or significant relevant experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within financial services
- Proven leadership skills and ability to manage a high-performing team
- Strong technical knowledge of financial crime regulations, particularly in the Isle of Man, UK and EU
- Experience interacting with external bodies such as the FIU and participating in regulatory inspections
- Knowledge of banking and investment products and operational best practice
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements into practical, business-friendly policies
- Strong analytical, report writing and communication skills
- Ability to influence and work collaboratively across all levels of the business
- High level of personal integrity, confidentiality and ethical standards
- Fit and Proper status required for MLRO controlled functions for applicable Group entities
