Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Manager to join their People and Culture team on a full-time, 6-month contract based in Guernsey. This role supports the delivery of the full employee lifecycle, assists with key HR projects, and promotes a positive and compliant work culture across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will work closely with line managers and senior leadership, offering expert guidance while helping to drive continuous improvement within the People and Culture function.
Job Duties:
- Coordinate and administer employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and offboarding
- Draft employment documentation such as contracts, amendments, and confirmations
- Maintain accurate employee records within HR systems and ensure data protection compliance
- Deliver background screening and regulatory vetting for new hires
- Support the annual performance and pay review cycle
- Assist with policy creation, updates, and implementation
- Liaise with regulators and legal partners on employment matters, including work permits
- Act as a first point of contact for employee and line manager queries
- Support or lead employee relations processes such as disciplinary and grievance meetings
- Prepare management reports and data insights to support P&C projects
- Coordinate training and liaise with external providers as needed
- Foster positive employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and contribute to team effectiveness
- Support and guide team members as part of line management responsibilities
Job Requirements:
- Relevant qualification in Human Resource Management or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar HR role
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations (Guernsey or other jurisdictions within scope)
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to multitask, prioritise and manage a varied workload
- Strong organisation and planning skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
- Confident working independently and collaboratively across teams
- Able to support and guide team members in line with people management best practice
