Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Legal to join their friendly team in Jersey. This permanent, full-time position involves 35 hours per week, offering a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the development of Jersey as an esteemed International Financial Centre. The successful candidate will lead the legal function, providing trusted legal advice across a range of issues, including regulatory and employment law. The role demands an individual who can navigate complex regulatory landscapes and make sound judgements that align with the organisation’s objectives.
Job Duties:
- Lead the development and implementation of the business legal risk management framework in close collaboration with the enterprise risk team.
- Provide timely and trusted legal advice on regulatory law, employment law, procedural matters, and other legal areas relevant to the company.
- Collaborate with and advise various functions within the the business, including Policy, Supervision, Enforcement, and Registry on legal matters.
- Procure timely and cost-effective specialist legal advice from external advisers.
- Offer legal guidance on drafting and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments.
- Liaise with external stakeholders regarding the development of the legal framework applicable to the business.
- Provide legal advice directly to the Chair of the Commission Board and other key executives.
- Undertake continuous self-development to expand legal insights pertinent to the business.
- Provide ongoing training and education to the business members on legal and legislative frameworks, relevant case law, and best practices.
Job Requirements:
- Relevant legal professional qualification.
- Strong academic background in law.
- Proven ability to produce authoritative legal advice independently that informs commercial or regulatory decisions.
- Prior knowledge and experience of the local financial services sector and regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
