Deputy HR & Payroll Manager

Our client is seeking a Deputy HR & Payroll Manager to support the HR & Payroll Manager in delivering efficient, compliant, and high-quality HR and payroll services across numerous superyachts worldwide. This role plays a vital operational part in ensuring day-to-day team performance, maintaining service standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. This is a full-time position.

Job Duties:

  • Support the HR & Payroll Manager with the day-to-day coordination of the HR & Payroll team.
  • Act as a point of escalation for team queries, ensuring timely resolution of operational issues.
  • Assist in planning and executing team meetings, training, and development initiatives.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members as required.
  • Monitor daily team outputs to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Support the onboarding and payroll integration process for new clients and vessels.
  • Oversee the review and validation of monthly payrolls and crew payments.
  • Assist in resolving payroll and invoice queries from clients and crew.
  • Contribute to the preparation of client invoices, year-end documentation, and audit support.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with yacht flag state regulations and internal procedures.
  • Monitor data handling practices in line with Guernsey Data Protection Law (DPL) / GDPR or equivalent legislation.
  • Assist in preparing compliance reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support investigations into data breaches or compliance issues as required.
  • Maintain professional communication with clients, crew, and third-party agencies.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Provide guidance on general HR and payroll queries from clients and internal teams.
  • Identify process improvements and contribute to the development of internal procedures.
  • Stay informed of relevant changes in payroll legislation and flag state regulations.
  • Provide input on systems and process enhancements to improve service delivery and team efficiency.
  • Provide cover for the HR & Payroll Manager during periods of absence.
  • Respond to legal or procedural queries with appropriate oversight from the Manager.
  • Participate in the company’s emergency response procedures and other operational initiatives.
  • Perform any additional duties as required by the HR & Payroll Manager or Operations Director.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing team.
  • Strong understanding of HR and payroll processes, preferably in an international or maritime context.
  • Knowledge of Guernsey Data Protection Law (DPL) or equivalent GDPR regulations.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a track record of delivering accurate, on-time payrolls and HR services.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Recruitment & Placement Agent section of relevant regulations.
  • Ability to liaise confidently and professionally with clients, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
