Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Marine HR and Compliance Manager to support yacht owners, managers, and the crew employment and payroll team with marine Human Resources (HR) and compliance services. This role is designed for a full-time position and will involve a variety of responsibilities aimed at optimising the HR function within a maritime context. The successful candidate will work closely with business directors and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders including crew, captains, and legal professionals. The role will involve addressing complex issues related to seafarer employment and compliance, while promoting an inclusive and supportive working environment.
Job Duties:
- Support the Business Directors and crew employment and payroll teams in HR and compliance matters related to seafarers.
- Provide professional HR advice and guidance to yacht owners, managers, captains, crew, and legal representatives.
- Assist in drafting and reviewing crewing agreements and employment contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
- Address issues related to discipline, grievance, capability, and sickness among seafarers, supporting affected staff and managing hearings.
- Implement seafarer HR policies effectively and conduct consultations with union representatives when necessary.
- Contribute to the development of HR initiatives and policies for the maritime sector.
- Provide technical support and cover for the Marine HR and Compliance team during absences.
- Maintain personal Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in line with industry standards.
- Support timely reporting of information to the board of directors.
- Foster a positive working environment by using inclusive language and promoting the organisational culture.
- Act as a line manager for Crew Supervisors, conducting performance reviews in a supportive manner.
- Represent the organisation professionally during business trips and client visits, promoting services and solutions effectively.
- Develop clear communication systems to enable direct accessibility to technical expertise.
- Serve as a professional role model, promoting high standards of practice and strong professional values.
Job Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an approachable and non-judgemental style that engages and influences others.
- In-depth understanding of Flag & Classification Society Rules & Regulations.
- Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and proactively.
- Exceptional command of the English language.
- Strong leadership abilities and a willingness to undertake professional qualifications in leadership.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and sound judgement calmly and professionally.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills, capable of prioritising effectively while managing deadlines under pressure.
- Proficiency in a second language such as French, Italian, or Spanish.
- Proficient computer skills (Outlook, Word, Adobe, etc.).
- Experience dealing with challenging clients.
- CIPD membership, diploma, or certificate.
