Accountant - Accounts Preparer

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic, accurate and well-organised accounts preparer to join a local accounting and tax services team. This family-owned business provides accounting and tax services to a large number of local Jersey businesses and individuals. The role offers both full-time and part-time options, with a flexible approach to working hours, all of which must be office-based. Ideal candidates will have the required technical qualifications and recent experience in accounts preparation. Our client values a collaborative environment and seeks individuals who can thrive in a lively, yet sometimes quieter, office setting. Team fit is essential, and the successful candidate will be able to undertake their responsibilities with minimal supervision while contributing to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare financial statements for a portfolio of local clients, extracting information from accounting ledgers or preparing data from clients' own records and bank statements.
  • Assist with the development of team members.
  • Provide ad hoc operational support to the business, including bookkeeping or accounting projects.
  • Interact with clients both in person and via written or telephone communication to establish the nature of transactions and to obtain missing source documentation as required.
  • Complete all administrative tasks, including filing, billing, and annual reviews.
  • File company tax returns online.

Job Requirements:

  • A recognised accountancy qualification with ICAEW, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Previous recent experience in preparing financial statements is required, preferably in a financial services or commercial environment.
  • A sound working knowledge of statutory requirements and AML/CFT legislation.
  • Team spirit, with the capacity to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Initiative to act without waiting for direction when appropriate.
  • A flexible and hands-on approach essential for working in a small company.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Outstanding communication skills to engage with people at all levels.
