Legal Counsel

Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their Legal, Regulatory and Compliance team. This key role involves providing expert legal advice to ensure the business operates within legal and regulatory boundaries, contributing to the achievement of strategic commercial objectives. The position requires a practical and commercial approach to legal issues. This role will provide full-time support and is integral to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of in-house legal services.

Job Duties:

  • Provide sound, commercially minded legal advice across multiple jurisdictions to various business areas, including retail and enterprise sales, technical, operations, and executive leadership, ensuring compliance with both domestic and foreign laws and regulations.
  • Build credibility as a trusted advisor who offers solutions-oriented legal support that aligns with business goals while mitigating legal and regulatory risks.
  • Display flexibility in advising on legal matters, synthesising foreign law insights and demonstrating a strong understanding of general legal principles.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including agreements, standard terms, statements of work, and legal correspondence.
  • Ensure all documentation conforms to legal and business requirements.
  • Build and manage relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external legal advisors to ensure alignment when providing legal advice.
  • Assist with projects such as M&A, large-scale CAPEX projects, and legal or regulatory consultations, providing legal insights and helping to navigate related complexities.
  • Collaborate on requests for proposals and/or supplier and customer onboarding.
  • Assist on company secretarial matters, working with external service providers as relevant.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training initiatives and materials aimed at educating employees across departments.
  • Continuously improve internal legal processes to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and timeliness of in-house legal services.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer (solicitor, barrister, or Fellow of Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) with at least 3 years PQE.
  • Experience in a corporate legal environment, with the ability to provide practical and commercially viable legal advice across a wide range of corporate and commercial matters.
  • Proficient in drafting a variety of legal documents, ensuring accuracy and legal soundness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present legal information clearly and succinctly to internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly grasp legal and business issues, understanding the commercial impact of legal decisions and formulating clear practical advice.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Able to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships across different departments and externally.
  • An interest in the development of legal technology and its application to in-house legal services would be highly valued.
