Temporary Talent & Development Manager - 12 months

Our client is seeking a Temporary Talent & Development Manager for a 12-month fixed-term contract, starting on 1st March 2026. This role is designed to provide temporary cover for their Legal Talent & Development Manager and will be pivotal in ensuring that legal professionals receive the support needed to excel in their positions and pursue their career aspirations. The individual will report to the Head of Talent & Development and will be integral in elevating the firm's 'Always Learning' ethos by driving engagement in development programmes. The successful candidate should have prior experience in learning and development, along with a solid understanding of the dynamics within a professional services environment, particularly in a legal context. Strong relationship-building skills with senior management and the ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholders are essential, as is the capability to review and prioritise training needs efficiently. The position offers a fast-paced and rewarding atmosphere within a growing organisation, perfect for someone who thrives in an evolving environment.

Job Duties:

  • Work closely with the Head of Talent & Development to deliver the framework for developing global legal teams at all career stages.
  • Manage the delivery of all legal development programmes, contributing directly or coordinating with internal and external training providers.
  • Support the execution of key projects and initiatives prioritised by the firm.
  • Foster an 'Always Learning' culture, driving engagement with development programmes and offerings.
  • Provide guidance and support for the partner-track development process.
  • Ensure existing development programmes remain relevant and effective in response to industry changes.
  • Facilitate and observe internal programmes, offering coaching to enhance the skills of less experienced facilitators.
  • Identify and select external training providers aligned with the firm's culture and values.
  • Provide advisory support to partners and legal teams regarding learning objectives and training approaches.
  • Manage the global legal training budget, ensuring effective expenditure.
  • Line manage the Senior Advisor within the Talent & Development team, encouraging their professional development.
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure a cohesive approach to firmwide initiatives.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in a global legal or professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with legal career paths and appropriate qualifications, particularly the SQE.
  • Proven advisory skills with a business partner approach to identifying organisational training needs.
  • Competent in designing and facilitating both in-person and online development activities.
  • Comfortable using virtual delivery tools such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
  • Experience with learning management systems and digital platforms.
  • Client-focused with an understanding of how professional development connects with business success.
  • Pragmatic with a balance between innovation and the realities of a fast-paced environment.
  • Digitally-minded with a focus on continuous improvement in user experience.
  • Globally-aware, adept at operating across international time zones.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Project management skills, capable of handling multiple programmes and priorities.
  • Ideally qualified in one or more psychometric tools.
