Senior Risk Assistant

Our client is seeking a Senior Risk Assistant who will play a crucial role in supporting the Chief Risk Officer and strengthening the enterprise-wide risk framework of the Bank. This hands-on position sits at the heart of the risk function, ensuring the Bank operates confidently within its Board-approved risk appetite while meeting regulatory expectations. The successful candidate will provide clear governance support, offer independent challenge, and aid in embedding strong, consistent risk practices throughout the organisation. This is a permanent, full-time role based in Guernsey. Key responsibilities will include assisting in the identification, assessment, and monitoring of key risks, as well as preparing high-quality risk management information and reports for senior leadership. The role will also support the CRO in regulatory interactions, including preparation for supervisory reviews and thematic visits.

Job Duties:

  • Support the Risk & Compliance Senior Leadership team in maintaining and embedding the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Coordinate and prepare updates to the Risk Appetite Statement, ensuring metrics are monitored, escalated, and reported appropriately.
  • Assist in the identification, assessment, and monitoring of key risks, including credit, operational, conduct, liquidity, market, and strategic risks.
  • Maintain the risk register, ensuring that risks, controls, and mitigants are clearly articulated and regularly reviewed.
  • Prepare high-quality risk management information and reports for the Executive Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee.
  • Track risk events, incidents, and near misses, ensuring timely escalation and follow-up actions.
  • Support the CRO in the effective operation of risk governance forums, including agenda setting, paper preparation, and action tracking.
  • Draft clear, concise risk papers for senior management and Board committees.
  • Ensure risk policies, frameworks, and procedures are reviewed in line with policy schedules and regulatory expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance risk processes, management information, and reporting.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in risk management within a regulated financial services environment (banking preferred).
  • Good understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and risk appetite concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear Board-level papers.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Confidence to engage with senior stakeholders and provide appropriate challenge.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a small team environment.
  • Desirable: Experience within an offshore or international banking environment, exposure to retail banking products, and familiarity with regulatory expectations of offshore supervisors.
