Finance Manager

Our client is seeking a Finance Manager to join their Finance Function, responsible for delivering high-standard finance-related services. The successful candidate will support the relevant Senior Finance Manager in ensuring the effectiveness and compliance of financial procedures and controls, adhering to accounting standards and the relevant rules. This full-time role includes maintaining high-quality financial information and advice for various service areas and committees. The post holder will oversee the monthly provision of accurate trial balances, manage accounting adjustments, and conduct reconciliations of balance sheet accounts. They will also support annual budgeting exercises and assist in the preparation of timely management accounts and year-end financial reports. Collaboration with finance colleagues across Financial Management, Financial Reporting, and Financial Planning and Analysis is essential, as is the ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. This role encourages professional growth while focusing on delivering value-added financial management services.

Job Duties:

  • Act as key support to the Senior Finance Manager for the provision of accurate trial balances each month-end.
  • Complete accounting adjustments promptly to ensure an efficient month-end process.
  • Manage and implement robust financial controls to ensure the accuracy of accounts.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation and review of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain master pay budget reports and manage project codes as required.
  • Assist Senior Finance Manager(s) in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Support the development of performance reporting such as variance analysis and project dashboards.
  • Provide analysis and reports to the Financial Management and Financial Planning and Analysis teams as necessary.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting exercise and monitoring of the medium-term financial plan.
  • Mentor and develop junior finance staff under the direction of the Senior Finance Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in annual budget setting and monthly financial reporting.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to present financial data professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for conveying financial messages clearly.
  • Capability to prioritise workload and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines while attending to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office and adept at developing financial reports through IT systems.
  • (Desirable) Introductory finance qualification from recognised bodies such as CAT, AAT, CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW, or CIPFA.
  • (Desirable) Public sector finance experience and familiarity with SAP is advantageous.
  • (Desirable) Experience in staff management and development, along with media awareness.
