Bookkeeper / Trainee Accountant

Our client is seeking a Bookkeeper / Trainee Accountant to assist in the smooth running of the finances and the timely preparation of the family accounts. This role is situated within a Single Family Office on the Isle of Man and provides both full-time and part-time options, with a minimum commitment of three full days a week or the equivalent hours. The primary focus will be on financial tasks, but due to the service-driven nature of a family office, the candidate must possess a ‘can do’ attitude and be willing to assist with various tasks as required by the family. This may include concierge-type responsibilities, such as booking travel or running errands. Maintaining confidentiality is crucial in this role, as is having a professional outlook and understanding the importance of discretion. The candidate will be required to adapt to team dynamics effectively, ensuring collaboration within a small team environment.

Job Duties:

  • Daily postings of supplier invoices, interbank transfers, cash receipts, and payments for all Isle of Man companies
  • Daily postings for the Isle of Man partnerships and trusts
  • Posting of investment portfolios and familiarity with multi-currency transactions
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns and liaising with Customs and Excise
  • Preparation of monthly payment runs, inputting payments into the banking system, and posting them to the accounting system
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations for all Isle of Man companies
  • Assisting with the posting of the daily cash fund
  • Assisting in the preparation of year-end accounts
  • Supporting ad hoc project work as needed
  • Ensuring adherence to service standards and company policies and procedures
  • Providing concierge services for the family
  • Performing general administration tasks for the family

Job Requirements:

  • AAT or equivalent qualification, or actively working towards this qualification, with training and support provided
  • A relevant bookkeeping qualification with experience in a bookkeeping or assistant accountant role
  • Support for progression from bookkeeping to accountant through professional training and practical experience
  • Working knowledge of Sage accounts software is preferred, although training will be provided
  • Proficient in Excel and able to work with spreadsheets effectively
