Finance Manager - Cayman Islands

The role involves working as part of the central Finance team, with the successful candidate tasked with ensuring effective, accurate, and timely financial operations for the firm’s Cayman office. This position is critical in overseeing all core finance processes, ensuring strong financial control, operational efficiency, and high-quality service delivery. The Finance Manager will act as the key finance lead in Cayman, supporting Partners and their teams while ensuring alignment with the central Finance function. Collaborating with the Real Estate team is essential to deliver on the finance aspects of completion processes. Duties include managing completion monies, ensuring accurate and timely disbursements, and overseeing client money handling, bookkeeping, and billing. The role demands a balance of operational management and responsiveness while supporting both internal stakeholders and client service delivery.

Job Duties:

  • Responsibility for the effective operation of the Cayman finance function, ensuring all finance processes such as billing, credit control, cashiering, and accounts payable are executed accurately and timely.
  • Ensure prioritisation of financial activities, balancing operational requirements with time-critical client transactions, particularly relating to Real Estate completions.
  • Work collaboratively with the Real Estate team for smooth execution of financial elements relating to completion processes.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide analysis to support decision-making in collaboration with the central Finance team.
  • Conduct regular reviews of Aged WIP, Aged Debt, and other matter balances, working with Partners to drive timely action and optimise cash flow.
  • Promote positive financial behaviours and embed financial best practices across the office.
  • Provide training and support to enhance staff financial awareness and responsibility.
  • Participate in the annual business planning and budgeting process, including financial forecasting.
  • Line management of a Finance Administrator based in Cayman, offering guidance and support.
  • Facilitate effective operational finance activities, maintaining high standards of accuracy and control.
  • Serve as the key finance contact for the Cayman office, aiding fee earners and support teams.
  • Monitor finance processes and proactively resolve issues to maintain efficiency.
  • Oversee completion-related cash flows and ensure coordination with stakeholders to meet transaction timelines.
  • Manage local Cayman bank relationships and maintain banking processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Establish robust financial processes and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the central Finance team to standardise processes and reporting.
  • Assist in financial investigations and audits for in-house entities, ensuring accurate reporting.

Job Requirements:

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CPA) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in a finance management role, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial operations and compliance requirements in the Cayman Islands.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement and promoting positive financial behaviours.
  • Exceptional business partnering skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with legal finance systems and practice management software (preferably Aderant).
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively guide non-finance staff.
  • Strong IT skills in Microsoft applications, notably Excel, ensuring accuracy in system outputs.
