Service Operations Technician

The Service Operations Technician role involves the maintenance and repair of gas appliances and related equipment within residential properties. This position ensures compliance with safety regulations and industry standards while delivering reliable service to customers. The technician will be responsible for diagnosing faults, performing routine servicing, and providing expert advice on energy-efficient solutions. Accurate record-keeping of completed work is essential. Additionally, the role includes responding to public-reported emergencies, such as gas leaks, and participating in an on-call rota. The technician must ensure that all downstream domestic gas work is performed safely, adhering to current legislation and best practices.

Job Duties:

  • Complete downstream domestic gas work safely following current legislation and codes of practice
  • Adhere to the Gas Industry Unsafe Situations Procedure
  • Respond to public-reported gas emergencies as a first responder, in line with industry and company procedures
  • Support Network Operations and LPG Operations Teams in locating and repairing gas escapes, as well as maintaining downstream gas supply assets
  • Perform gas work on gas meter installations from the emergency control valve to the gas installation pipework
  • Conduct safe gas work on gas appliances according to manufacturer’s instructions, including installation, servicing, repairs, fault finding, and diagnostics
  • Attend to high gas consumption inquiries and customer care visits
  • Assist in the completion of safety audits and inspections as required

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess current ACS certification and be Gas Safe Registered
  • Hold a full clean driving licence
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the construction, operation, and maintenance of gas equipment and appliances
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, the public, contractors, and consultants
  • Possess relevant technical, operational, and process knowledge in Natural Gas and LPG
  • Understand and apply Technical/Engineering Standards and Codes of Practice within the gas industry
  • Exhibit a thorough grasp of health and safety principles and knowledge of relevant statutory legislation
  • Capability to complete all job documentation accurately
  • Ability to execute monitoring and control procedures effectively
