Trainee Accountant, Fund Accounting

The Trainee Accountant will be responsible for supporting the accounting function by delivering high-quality financial reporting and operational outputs across a diverse portfolio of entities, including venture capital funds and associated structures. This is a full-time position based in Jersey, allowing for professional growth and skill enhancement in fund accounting. The role involves various aspects of bookkeeping, management accounts preparation, compliance support, and client service. The successful candidate will perform essential bookkeeping tasks, maintain general ledgers, conduct bank reconciliations, and assist with audit preparations. Additionally, there will be opportunities for training towards a professional qualification. The position is vital for ensuring that all financial data is accurately recorded and reported, contributing to the overall operational success of the department.

Job Duties:

  • Perform monthly bookkeeping and transaction processing across multiple entities
  • Maintain general ledgers, including posting journals, accruals, and adjustments
  • Complete bank and cash reconciliations and investigate variances
  • Assist in preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • Support the production of trial balances and supporting schedules
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual financial reporting
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries
  • Support the delivery of annual audit requirements
  • Provide information to support tax reporting and return preparation
  • Assist with capital account schedules and distribution calculations
  • Work closely with administration teams to ensure accurate records
  • Respond to client and internal queries in a timely manner
  • Build effective working relationships
  • Study towards a professional qualification and complete training

Job Requirements:

  • Strong academic background
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good IT skills including Excel
  • Understanding of financial services (desirable)
  • Previous accounting or office experience (desirable)
