The role of the Data Protection Specialist involves supporting the Data Protection Officer in implementing specific Data Privacy Strategies in compliance with local legislation. This position is a full-time opportunity based in Jersey, focusing on the assessment and analysis of data privacy changes, gaps, and requirements. The Data Protection Specialist will be responsible for compiling reports that advise on risk mitigation plans to protect both clients and the organisation from data privacy risks. Key duties include maintaining and enhancing governance processes, providing administrative support for Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs), and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). Furthermore, they will inform stakeholders about best practices regarding data privacy and ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislation. Collaboration with various teams and continuous improvement of data privacy processes are also vital components of this role.
Job Duties:
- Maintain, implement and enhance governance processes to align with regulatory and compliance policies.
- Inform and advise stakeholders by disseminating best practice data privacy advice.
- Investigate, analyse, and interpret system information to provide reporting tools support.
- Analyse and interpret the Data Privacy strategy to formulate business requirements.
- Manage and oversee day-to-day business operations related to data subject rights.
- Support the Data Protection Officer in operationalising the incident management plan.
- Collaborate with data privacy teams, product owners, and IT to mitigate compliance issues.
- Provide reports on assessments and audit trails as per compliance regulations.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to keep them informed about inquiries and system changes.
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of the Data Privacy and Protection Policy Framework.
Job Requirements:
- First Degree in Information Technology or Legal is preferred; a Post Graduate Degree in the same fields is an advantage.
- Data Protection Practitioner qualification in Data Protection and Information Governance is required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of extensive knowledge and management of Data Privacy, preferably within financial institutions, is essential.
- Strong experience in applying audit knowledge to drive continuous improvement in data privacy.
- Proven ability to uphold ethical standards, maintain confidentiality, and meet commitments.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on articulating information clearly.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work.
