Senior Accountant

This permanent role requires a dedicated professional to manage the financial responsibilities for a diverse portfolio of trusts and corporate structures. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring tax compliance, and maintaining regulatory and legal standards. The position involves overseeing approximately 500 entities, which entails timely reporting, the supervision of junior team members, and the management of the external audit process for GFSC-regulated clients. Additional duties include implementing governance frameworks, addressing accounting queries, and participating in special projects. The ideal candidate will work standard hours from 09:00 to 17:00, including a one-hour lunch break. Holiday entitlement starts at 25 days per annum, increasing with length of service.

Job Duties:

  • Preparation and review of financial statements and tax compliance for a portfolio of trusts and corporate structures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, quarterly net asset reports, and loan interest certificates.
  • Maintain regulatory and legal compliance within all financial activities and reporting.
  • Supervise junior team members and mentor cross-jurisdictional teams.
  • Manage performance and set KPIs to foster operational excellence.
  • Assist with the management and supervision of the external audit process to ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Implement robust governance frameworks and standardise financial policies.
  • Address and resolve accounting queries and discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly accounts statistics.
  • Undertake any other duties as requested by management.
  • Aid in the completion of Guernsey Tax, UK Corporation Tax, and VAT returns on time.
  • Support the review and submission of tax returns and ensure adherence to regulatory filings.

Job Requirements:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified.
  • Minimum of 5 years' practical experience in the Trust/Fiduciary sector.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, including IFRS and GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical and financial data interpretation skills.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritise work, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
