An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Practice Manager to lead an established veterinary practice in Guernsey during a pivotal time in its development. The role focuses on the operational management and leadership of the practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient and client care. This position will involve supporting the Clinical Director in day-to-day operations, coaching and developing team members, and promoting an environment that fosters both people and patient growth. The successful applicant will engage in various management responsibilities, from recruitment and workforce planning to resolving client complaints and enhancing customer service. Job Duties:
- Lead, coach, and support members of the practice team
- Line manage and develop the administrative team
- Support recruitment and workforce planning alongside the Clinical Director and central recruitment team
- Oversee inductions, probation reviews, 1:1s, appraisals, and employee development
- Manage absence, holiday allocation, and rotas as required
- Organise and support regular management and team meetings
- Handle complex or confidential employee matters sensitively
- Act as a key point of contact for staff concerns and conflict resolution
- Manage and resolve client complaints professionally
- Promote consistently high standards of customer service
- Encourage colleagues with CPD and development opportunities
- Collaborate with the Clinical Director to maintain health and safety and compliance standards
- Support financial efficiency, including practice fees, debt management, and stock control
- Identify opportunities to improve practice processes, efficiency, and performance
- Take a strategic view of practice development and support the transition into the new hospital
Job Requirements:
- Confident and capable manager with a passion for working with people
- Experience managing teams within a veterinary practice or similar environment
- Strong understanding of people management, customer service, and operational delivery
- Professional, approachable, and empathetic demeanour
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
- Experienced coach who enjoys motivating and developing others
- Organised, proactive, and able to prioritise effectively
- Natural problem solver who constructively challenges the status quo
- Commercially aware, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement
- Detail-focused while maintaining a big-picture understanding
- Comfortable collaborating with both clinical and non-clinical colleagues
- Project management experience is advantageous; CIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR knowledge is desirable
