Consultant Psychiatrist - Acute Care

Our client is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Psychiatry to join an established Mental Health Service in Guernsey. This is a senior clinical opportunity combining inpatient psychiatry with liaison work, alongside a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality adult mental health care, providing clinical leadership, specialist psychiatric input and contributing to the ongoing development of services.

Job Duties:

  • Provide Consultant-level psychiatric care within an adult inpatient setting.
  • Undertake psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and ongoing clinical management.
  • Manage patients presenting with complex and high-risk mental health conditions.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
  • Provide specialist psychiatric advice and support to primary care professionals.
  • Participate in the Consultant on-call rota.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to medical and wider clinical colleagues.
  • Contribute to teaching, training and continuing professional development activities.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and service development.
  • Contribute to research activity where appropriate.
  • Support the effective clinical management and development of the wider Mental Health Service.
  • Participate in professional appraisal and revalidation requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • MRCPsych or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register, or equivalent, with CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Wide and recent experience within General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Experience managing high-risk and complex mental health presentations.
  • Proven clinical leadership experience.
  • Strong multidisciplinary team-working experience.
  • Relevant teaching and continuing medical education experience.
  • Evidence of commitment to clinical quality and continuous professional development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Inpatient and community psychiatry experience would be advantageous.
  • Previous Consultant-level experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience of service development would be advantageous.
  • Section 12 Approval is desirable but not essential.
