Data Protection and Operational Tax Analyst

Our client is seeking a dedicated Data Protection and Operational Tax Analyst to support the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax. This role is vital for ensuring compliance with data protection laws and operational tax obligations. The position is based in the Channel Islands and is permanent and full-time. You will be working collaboratively across various functions to enhance data protection processes and operational tax compliance. The role encompasses both administrative and analytical responsibilities, involving direct support in documenting compliance activities and operational tax reporting. You will engage with different teams within the organisation, ensuring all statutory obligations are met while continuously improving processes to contribute to the organisation's overall effectiveness.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Support the maintenance of the Bank's Register of Processing Activities, liaising with business units to gather and refresh information.
  • Assist with the logging, triage and progression of Data Subject Rights Requests, ensuring timely legal responses.
  • Aid in the administration of Data Protection Impact Assessments, compiling necessary information from stakeholders and keeping assessment records current.
  • Facilitate the onboarding of third parties in alignment with internal policy.
  • Help maintain data protection policies, procedures, guidelines and training materials, proposing changes to the line manager as required.
  • Support the delivery and coordination of data protection training and awareness initiatives throughout the organisation.
  • Assist with the logging and initial triage of reported data incidents, ensuring potential breaches are escalated promptly.
  • Keep accurate records of data protection matters to support reporting to Senior Management and the Board.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support for the organisation's FATCA, CRS and Qualified Intermediary reporting duties.
  • Assist in the collection of Trust and Corporate tax information and self-certification forms and help coordinate updates to client static data.
  • Support FATCA and CRS classification checks and documentation for the Operational Tax team and other departments.
  • Assist in preparing FATCA and CRS returns ahead of annual deadlines for the Guernsey and Jersey businesses.
  • Monitor tax policy and regulatory developments, flagging potential implications to the line manager.
  • Help manage W-8 documentation for trading in US source assets under guidance.
  • Create and maintain operational tax process documentation, supporting periodic reviews.
  • Assist in client communications regarding annual tax reporting.
  • Support the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax and business stakeholders in preparing annual Qualified Intermediary returns.
  • Provide support to the wider operational risk function as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in data protection, compliance, legal, operational tax or risk administration is preferred, particularly within financial services.
  • Knowledge of supporting regulatory, risk management or tax reporting processes would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with structured processes and controls in regulated environments is beneficial.
  • A basic understanding of data protection legislation and compliance requirements is essential.
  • Knowledge of QI, FATCA and CRS tax regimes and their reporting requirements is helpful.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office and AI-enabled productivity tools, are necessary.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to follow processes accurately while identifying gaps or anomalies.
  • Strong organisational and analytical abilities to interpret information clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey information appropriately.
  • Ability to build effective relationships across various teams and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • High ethical standards and integrity in handling sensitive data.
  • A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work under supervision.
  • Strong personal organisation and time management skills, capable of managing competing priorities.
  • Team-oriented with collaborative skills to support a variety of responsibilities within the role.
