Head of Compliance

Our client offers a remarkable opportunity for a Head of Compliance to join their dynamic team in the Isle of Man. This full-time role involves leading the compliance function, ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks and maintaining the integrity of corporate governance. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation's objectives while strengthening the culture of ethical conduct and risk awareness within the business. You will be responsible for overseeing compliance and regulatory matters, fostering a robust risk culture, and providing expert guidance to senior management and stakeholders. Given the leadership nature of this position, it requires an individual with a strong background in compliance within the financial services sector and excellent communication skills.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Act as the Group Head of Compliance and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and oversee the compliance framework across the organisation, ensuring ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and controls to support regulatory compliance and corporate governance obligations.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of the annual Compliance Monitoring Programme.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of regulatory and compliance risks.
  • Ensure the effective operation of systems and controls designed to prevent financial crime, including anti-money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism, and sanctions compliance.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to the Board and senior management on regulatory developments and compliance matters.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and manage regulatory relationships, inspections, enquiries, and reporting.
  • Prepare and present compliance, risk, and financial crime reports to the Board and relevant governance committees.
  • Maintain oversight of Data Protection compliance requirements and support the business in fulfilling obligations under applicable data protection legislation.
  • Lead the ongoing development and maintenance of the Group Risk Management Framework.
  • Promote a robust risk and compliance culture throughout the business.
  • Monitor emerging regulatory developments and assess their impact on the organisation.
  • Oversee the maintenance of risk registers and compliance action plans.
  • Support the continuous enhancement of governance arrangements and internal controls.
  • Ensure appropriate management information is produced to support informed decision-making.
  • Provide effective management, support, and development for the Compliance Officer.
  • Promote professional development and knowledge sharing across the organisation.
  • Deliver compliance training and awareness initiatives for employees and management.
  • Drive continual improvement within the compliance framework, identifying opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support strategic projects and business initiatives by providing regulatory and risk management input.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five years' experience in a senior compliance leadership role within a regulated financial services environment is essential.
  • You will possess relevant qualifications in compliance, governance, risk management, legal, or financial services, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including Board-level services qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of Isle of Man regulatory requirements, including AML/CFT obligations and corporate governance expectations, is required.
  • Proven experience acting as MLRO, Deputy MLRO, Compliance Officer, or equivalent controlled function.
  • Experience dealing directly with regulatory authorities and managing regulatory relationships is necessary.
  • You will also need proven experience developing and operating compliance monitoring and risk management frameworks, with strong leadership and people management skills.
