Senior Finance Operations Manager

Our client is seeking a Senior Finance Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the firm and lead a team of finance administrators. This is a full-time, permanent position within the central Finance team, where you will ensure operational compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks and internal policies, while delivering efficient financial processes across the business. This role is pivotal in supporting the wider firm’s objectives by driving operational excellence and continuous improvement in financial performance.

Job Duties:

  • Lead, manage and develop a team of finance administrators, ensuring efficient workload allocation and high performance
  • Conduct performance reviews and encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Oversee finance operations including billing, credit control, cashiering, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, client payments and staff expenses
  • Manage client accounting processes and ensure timely and accurate reconciliations
  • Oversee month-end operations including reviewing bank reconciliations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Monitor cash flow in conjunction with Financial Controller and Management Accountant
  • Ensure compliance with relevant AML regulations, law society rules and other regulatory requirements
  • Maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures, ensuring enforcement and compliance
  • Manage banking relationships including mandates, online platforms, and account opening
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve financial queries and deliver smooth operations
  • Support financial investigations and audits, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
  • Contribute to process improvements and the ongoing development of financial policies

Job Requirements:

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CPA)
  • Experience in a senior finance operations role, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Proven leadership experience with ability to develop and motivate teams
  • Strong knowledge of legal finance operations and client accounting, including law society accounts rules and probate administration
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels
  • Demonstrable experience in implementing financial controls and process improvements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and strong overall IT literacy
  • Experience using financial systems and legal practice management software (preferably Aderant)
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
