Senior Trade Mark Manager

Our client is seeking a permanent, full-time Senior Trade Mark Manager to support the establishment and operation of the Intellectual Property team within the Registry division. This role plays a critical part in the successful transition and management of Jersey’s new Trade Mark, Patent and Design Registers, with a focus on delivering high-quality services, interpreting legislation and case law, and contributing to the development of Jersey’s intellectual property framework. You will be responsible for defining operational processes, reviewing applications, and acting as a senior point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.

Job Duties:

  • Develop an understanding of intellectual property legislation, case law, and examination practices
  • Manage the transition and implementation of Trade Mark, Patent and Design Registers
  • Define operational processes and procedures to support the new registers
  • Ensure compliance with legislative service level agreements
  • Deliver effective and efficient services to users of the intellectual property regime
  • Examine applications, draft examination reports, and liaise with applicants to resolve discrepancies
  • Lead on escalated applications, including decision drafting and technical discussions
  • Provide statistics and input into risk assessments and trend analysis across the wider organisation
  • Act as a key representative for all queries relating to Trade Mark, Patent and Design registrations
  • Adapt to changing environments and meet deadlines within the Registry division

Job Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of the Intellectual Property regime, including legislation and registration practices
  • Proven analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret legal and technical information
  • Experience in people management and system implementation is preferred
  • Previous experience as a Trade Mark examiner is desirable but not essential; training will be provided
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service
  • Ability to manage high workloads and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Confident in technical discussions and decision-making, particularly in contentious or escalated matters
  • Able to build a high-performing, knowledgeable team to support Jersey’s intellectual property framework
