Temporary Senior Accountant, Local Business Services - 12 months

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their Local Business Service department on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. The role involves managing a varied portfolio of local and international clients, including traders, property holding structures, investment vehicles and general-purpose funds. The successful candidate will also mentor junior team members, ensure compliance with financial and regulatory standards, and support the leadership team with various operational tasks and projects.

Job Duties:

  • Manage client take-on procedures, including engagement letters and system setup
  • Maintain accurate client files and records in office databases and practice management systems
  • Respond to client queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Produce statutory annual reports and financial statements, including monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting
  • Review financial statements prepared by junior staff, providing feedback and training where needed
  • Assist with tax computations, tax returns and corporate reporting requirements
  • Perform reconciliations and support audit processes, including liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with current and emerging accounting standards, providing guidance to the wider team
  • Identify and propose changes to improve policies and procedures
  • Prepare proposals for new client engagements and review WIP to manage billing effectively
  • Maintain knowledge of local regulatory requirements and industry practices
  • Build and maintain a solid understanding of client businesses to offer value-added insights and recommendations
  • Support the manager with ad hoc projects and team initiatives

Job Requirements:

  • Fully qualified accountant or equivalent (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CPA)
  • Experience working in a similar client-facing accounting role
  • Sound understanding of local tax and regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to interpret and implement accounting standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
  • Confident in mentoring junior team members and providing technical support
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and enhance service delivery
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
