Cyber Security Director

Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Cyber Security Director to spearhead the development and execution of a robust cyber security strategy, protecting both the organisation and those who rely on them for cyber protection. This role offers hands-on operational leadership and management of a high-performing cyber security team. The successful candidate will be adept at both incident remediation alongside their team of engineers and at building and maintaining strong relationships with C-level executives of the organisations being safeguarded.

Job Duties:

  • Direct day-to-day activities for the cyber security team, overseeing operational security tasks, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement with a hands-on approach.
  • Lead by example while mentoring and coaching team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Manage client relationships and identify opportunities for improvement or growth.
  • Support the sales cycle including client pitches, proposals, and onboarding engagements.
  • Travel to clients and events to build relationships and support the sales cycle.
  • Responsible for the commercial success of the business, including budgeting, cost oversight, and resource allocation, in collaboration with the Finance Director.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years in technical leadership with a hands-on operational focus.
  • Familiarity with the implementation or operational compliance of ISO 27001.
  • Degree in Cyber Security or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Industry recognised certification such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, or CGEIT.
  • Experience in a service-oriented or client-facing cyber security or technical role.
  • Proven hands-on experience in managing cyber security operations within a small, agile team environment.
  • Strong technical proficiency with Microsoft 365 security tools and platforms.
  • Experience with SIEM technologies, including deployment, tuning, and operational monitoring.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable presenting to both technical teams and executive-level audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships effectively, balancing technical requirements with business goals.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical risks in clear, actionable terms to business stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, incident response, and risk management best practices.
  • Experience with automation of security processes and security orchestration preferred.
  • Familiar with key regulatory and compliance frameworks, including ISO 27001, GDPR, NIST, and Cyber Essentials.
