Compliance Manager

Our client is seeking a Compliance Manager to support the Head of Risk & Compliance in ensuring the organisation adheres to its anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing obligations during client onboarding. This role is pivotal in facilitating ongoing compliance efforts related to AML/CFT as well as sanctions. The successful candidate will engage in both routine activities and projects pertinent to client onboarding and periodic reviews necessary for AML/CFT compliance. The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders and supports compliance initiatives across regulatory frameworks in Jersey and Bermuda. The Compliance Manager will play a crucial role in identifying compliance weaknesses, managing operational issues, and ensuring training requirements are met following compliance monitoring findings. The role offers a dynamic opportunity for a seasoned professional to contribute to essential compliance processes while building strong relationships within the team and beyond.

Job Duties:

  • Provide onboarding support and guidance to Bermuda partners and fee earners, acting as a subject matter expert in onboarding and regulatory compliance.
  • Build close working relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
  • Stay updated with legislative and regulatory developments, collaborating with the Head of Risk & Compliance to implement necessary policy and procedure changes promptly.
  • Support the Bermuda onboarding team based in Southampton.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on AML/CFT/PF queries related to client take-on.
  • Collaborate with the CSP Compliance Manager and wider team.
  • Identify and document potential compliance weaknesses, presenting recommendations and action plans for resolution.
  • Manage operational issues, documenting and tracking resolutions to completion.
  • Ensure timely resolution of errors identified during compliance monitoring, including fulfilling training requirements.
  • Participate in the escalation process for high-risk or complex matters requiring senior management input.
  • Contribute to project activities related to client onboarding, processes, systems, and controls.
  • Assist with regulatory submissions, ensuring timely preparation and completion.
  • Support the external audit process.

Job Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in financial services or legal practice.
  • Excellent working knowledge of AML/CFT principles, legislation, and global sanctions regimes.
  • Experienced in applying risk-based due diligence (CDD) measures and client onboarding procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, particularly Excel, and AML/CFT and sanctions screening systems; familiarity with Intapp and/or ViewPoint is an asset.
  • Knowledge of law firm and corporate services matters is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong people and team management experience is necessary.
  • Proven track record in stakeholder management with the ability to manage cross-jurisdictional communications.
  • Degree qualified and holds a relevant professional designation (e.g. CAMS, ICA).
