Director, Supervision

Our client is seeking a Director for the Supervision division based in St Helier, Jersey, within the Banking and Investment Business sector. This role will operate in a hybrid working environment and will involve leading a dedicated Supervision team during a significant period of change. The Director will be accountable for maintaining and enhancing Jersey’s reputation as a well-regulated jurisdiction, working closely with both external stakeholders and internal teams. The position demands a deep understanding of the local and international business environment and requires fostering strong relationships with various stakeholders, including the Government of Jersey and international organisations. The Director will also contribute to the development of a risk-based supervisory approach, actively engaging with internal and external parties to support the organisation’s strategic objectives. Success in this role will mean leading a high-performing team and ensuring continuous improvement in processes, all whilst motivating and developing talent within the organisation.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the Supervision team during a critical transition period, supporting both the Executive and other departments.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with key stakeholders to safeguard and promote Jersey's international reputation.
  • Drive the implementation of a strategic supervisory approach based on insightful risk assessment across prudential, conduct, and financial crime risks.
  • Engage in external presentations and industry events to improve visibility and impact.
  • Enhance the team's capabilities through innovative use of data, RegTech, and AI tools to improve productivity and compliance processes.
  • Ensure timely and effective decision-making for significant firms under supervision, supporting readiness for international standards assessments.
  • Foster collaborative internal relationships that promote organisational objectives and cross-departmental success.
  • Cultivate a positive culture that attracts and retains talent for future success in Jersey.

Job Requirements:

  • Extensive leadership experience in supervision or a related field, preferably within the banking sector.
  • Strong commercial acumen and operational understanding of investment businesses.
  • Proven ability to manage change effectively within large teams and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Experience in leveraging data to inform decision-making, alongside a background in financial crime, prudential, and conduct risks.
  • Familiarity with adopting technology or using AI for productivity improvements.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills at all organisational levels.
