Junior Software Developer

Our client, located in Guernsey or Southampton, is seeking a Junior Software Developer to join their in-house software development team. This role is critical in creating and enhancing bespoke yacht crew employment and payroll services for significant clients across the maritime industry. The successful candidate will report directly to the Front End Lead and Project Manager. The position involves supporting the existing software team to further develop and deliver the department's DevOps and product strategy. The role entails maintaining the cloud-based crew payroll system, developing the progressive web app (PWA), and managing the registration service. Collaboration with strategic partners for third-party integrations will also be a key responsibility. The candidate will be expected to respond to feedback from senior team members and enhance output continuously while contributing to the group's data structure development. Additionally, generating custom reports for key stakeholders will form an essential part of this position.

Job Duties:

  • Support the software team in developing and delivering DevOps and product strategy.
  • Maintain the cloud-based crew payroll system, PWA, and registration service.
  • Collaborate with strategic partners for third-party integrations.
  • Respond to feedback from senior team members to improve output.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the group data structure.
  • Generate custom reports for key stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrable problem-solving, numeracy, and literacy competencies.
  • Ability to work within established DevOps processes.
  • Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, and familiarity with AWS and self-hosted servers.
  • Capability to present designs and ideas to primary users in plain English.
  • Experience building tests for both code and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Ability to produce code according to a set 'clean code' standard.
  • Ability to safely refactor system elements to improve efficiency and security.
  • Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  • Desirable experience working on legacy PHP.
  • Experience with AWS (Kubernetes, EC2, EKS), React, or software frameworks.
  • Experience building or maintaining native mobile apps or progressive web apps.
  • Familiarity with MVC code structures.
