Our client is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support, maintain and enhance SQL databases within various locations. This full-time role will report to the Head of Business Systems and requires proficiency in relational databases, object-oriented programming, and exceptional problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing upgrades of the database and SQL infrastructure, as well as handling database migrations. Other duties include administering, testing, implementing, and supporting application SQL databases. Monitoring performance and high availability configurations to ensure optimal database uptime is crucial, alongside participating in proactive maintenance to identify and mitigate potential issues before they arise. The candidate will also provide expert third-level support in line with the organisation’s ITSM policies and drive the transition to Azure SQL services and platforms. Additionally, this role involves supporting business process optimisation initiatives and assisting the RPA team with database connectivity requests.
Job Duties:
- Perform upgrades of the database and SQL infrastructure to new release levels and manage database migrations.
- Administer, test, implement, and support application SQL databases.
- Monitor performance, space requirements, and high availability configurations to ensure database uptime.
- Participate in proactive maintenance by identifying potential problems and implementing solutions to prevent outages.
- Troubleshoot processes and optimise queries.
- Refresh non-production instances from production databases.
- Provide expert third-level support in accordance with ITSM policies.
- Ensure alignment of database backup strategy with the business continuity plan.
- Spearhead the move to Azure SQL services and platforms.
- Support business process optimisation efforts to enhance data capture, processing, and quality.
- Assist the RPA team with database connectivity requests, including direct database and API methodologies.
- Aid the BI team with connectivity to FABRIC and the legacy Data Warehouse.
Job Requirements:
- Proven track record of database maintenance in a high availability enterprise environment.
- Demonstrable expert experience in local and cloud system operation and architecture.
- Experienced in developing proactive monitoring solutions to support maximum system uptime (knowledge of PRTG is advantageous).
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, and SSIS.
- Experience in database design, management, data integrity, and data cleansing.
- Familiarity with designing and implementing ETL processes.
- Knowledge of data mapping between APIs and system databases is essential.
- Understanding of web services and SOA-related standards (e.g., REST/OData/JSON and SOAP/WSDL) is advantageous.
- University educated or possession of IT-related qualifications.
- Ideally have experience in a financial services environment.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a similar role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, capable of engaging with non-IT staff at all levels.
- Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
