Underwriter

This role involves supporting the delivery of sustainable and profitable growth by collaborating with the underwriting team to service both new and existing clients while adhering to relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards. The Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating personal lines risks, proposing and negotiating policy terms aligned with agreed underwriting principles. This position requires evaluating risks and providing fair outcomes for clients while ensuring first-class customer service. Additionally, the Underwriter will manage existing client portfolios to achieve service and underwriting performance targets while enhancing the reputation for excellent service. Building relationships with colleagues, claims teams, and capacity providers will be essential for the successful delivery of objectives. Furthermore, the individual will need to continuously develop their knowledge and skills for effective client servicing and undertake short-term projects as required.

Job Duties:

  • Analyse and evaluate risks, proposing and negotiating policy terms within established underwriting standards.
  • Collaborate with the underwriting team to ensure compliance with sales quality standards and regulatory requirements for General products.
  • Review and process existing client portfolios while striving to meet service and underwriting performance targets.
  • Liaise with underwriters to secure appropriate policy cover and terms in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Maintain effective relationships across various business areas to enhance customer service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and skills to ensure professional and compliant client servicing.
  • Deliver short-term projects as agreed upon with the Line Manager.
  • Coach and guide colleagues on more complex risks and technical areas to support effective decision-making.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in relevant field (or progress towards) is desirable.
  • Mathematics and English language GCSE grades A to C (or equivalent) as a minimum.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a professional and approachable demeanour.
  • Experience in delivering client-focused solutions and building long-term relationships.
  • Broad knowledge of the market.
  • Experience operating in an underwriting role or holding underwriting authority in a relevant sector.
