Legal Counsel

This role offers a senior position within the General Counsel team, providing primary legal support to Guernsey boards. The Legal Counsel will focus on board advisory work, legal risk management, and contract review while also handling PI, complaints, contentious and regulatory matters. The successful candidate will engage in direct collaboration with the General Counsel and the wider General Counsel team across all the firm’s jurisdictions. Key responsibilities will include contributing to legal reports, attending board meetings, managing external counsel, and supervising junior legal resources. This position requires a qualified lawyer with at least four years of post-qualification experience (PQE) and demonstrable commercial and risk-based legal support skills in a fast-paced fiduciary and financial services context. Job Duties:

  • Act as primary legal support for Guernsey-based boards
  • Advise boards on legal, fiduciary, regulatory, and governance matters
  • Support decision-making on legally sensitive matters
  • Prepare legal reports for board review
  • Identify escalation matters to the General Counsel or relevant committees
  • Manage PI notifications and complaints
  • Attend board or committee meetings as required
  • Support the General Counsel across Group legal matters
  • Supervise Junior Legal Counsel, Senior Paralegal, and Trainee Paralegal work
  • Ensure consistent legal approaches across jurisdictions
  • Assist with Board and committee papers

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 4 years’ PQE
  • Experience advising boards or senior management
  • Background in fiduciary services, trust and corporate services, or financial services
  • Strong legal technical ability and drafting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and competing priorities
  • Good judgment on escalation and privilege
  • Team player with confidence working with senior stakeholders
