Our client is seeking a part-time Shop Assistant to join their retail team in Guernsey. This role involves providing exceptional customer service and assisting customers in selecting products that meet their needs. The position is permanent with a commitment of 7 hours per week, specifically on Saturdays from 09:30 to 17:00. Flexibility is required for additional holiday cover during mid-week mornings and for sickness/emergency cover as needed.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist customers with their product choices and provide advice as required.
- Replenish stock on shop shelves once items have been sold.
- Maintain a clean and tidy shop environment, ensuring the floor is dry on wet days to prevent accidents.
- Set up flood defence barriers at the end of the day when necessary.
- Engage in ongoing product training and participate in monthly quizzes to enhance product knowledge.
- Ensure the till has adequate change and that stock is stored appropriately to keep the shop floor clear.
- Maintain cleanliness of the shop, including shelves and flooring.
- Update shelf labels during promotional offers.
- Report any issues or price discrepancies to the relevant person.
- Manage cashing up procedures at the end of the business day, including banking and securing the shop.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate reliability and responsibility in all tasks.
- Present themselves well and communicate confidently and clearly.
- Show empathy and understanding towards customers.
- Exhibit a friendly and approachable demeanour.
- Maintain a sales-driven approach without being overly pushy.
- Be a team player while also being capable of working independently.
- Understand and operate the till and various payment methods, including managing refunds and discounts.
- Desirable criteria include a health-conscious mindset and interest in nutrition.
- Previous retail experience is beneficial.
