Contract Senior Operational Risk Manager - 6 months

Our client is seeking a Senior Operational Risk Manager for a fixed-term contract of six months based in Guernsey. This full-time role involves enhancing and shaping the operational risk framework while partnering with business leaders to oversee risk governance and provide independent challenge across various operational areas. You will play a critical role in promoting effective risk management practices and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations. The position focuses on influencing strategic decision-making, overseeing the identification and assessment of operational risks, and ensuring that significant exposures are escalated to appropriate governance forums. You will collaborate closely with various teams to strengthen operational resilience capabilities and ensure a strong risk culture is maintained throughout the organisation.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Act as a senior second-line risk partner to the business, providing independent oversight, challenge, and guidance on operational risk matters across the organisation.
  • Lead the ongoing development, enhancement, and implementation of the operational risk framework, ensuring alignment with relevant policies, standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of material operational risks, ensuring that emerging risks and significant exposures are escalated appropriately.
  • Monitor the operational risk profile against approved risk appetite and tolerance levels, providing insight and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Provide effective challenge and oversight of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), ensuring that risks, control weaknesses, and remediation actions are identified and managed.
  • Partner with various functions to promote the consistent application of the risk framework, while maintaining strong relationships with assurance functions.
  • Represent the organisation at operational risk forums and act as the primary liaison with relevant operational risk management parties.
  • Monitor the management of operational risk events, ensuring thorough root cause analysis is performed and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Produce high-quality operational risk reporting and management information for governance forums and senior management, providing insights into the operational risk profile and emerging themes.
  • Champion a strong risk culture, promoting proactive risk management and effective decision-making across the organisation.
  • Oversee the effective operation of the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system, ensuring accurate risk data capture and management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Significant experience in Operational Risk or related control functions within financial services is essential.
  • Proven experience engaging with senior management and governance forums in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and enhancing operational risk frameworks and policies.
  • Experience facilitating risk assessments, control evaluations, and incident management activities is required.
  • A strong understanding of operational risk management principles and industry best practices is necessary.
  • A relevant professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, or similar would be advantageous.
