Senior Azure Cloud Engineer

Our client is seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to lead the transition to a Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This role involves designing, implementing, and securing cloud infrastructure while ensuring compliance with ISO 27001, GDPR, and other regulatory standards. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, external vendors, and key stakeholders to drive digital transformation initiatives and optimise cloud security and performance.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the end-to-end migration of core infrastructure from on-premises to Microsoft Azure.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performing Azure architectures.
  • Develop strategies for hybrid cloud environments and network integrations.
  • Optimise Azure performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Implement Azure security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), role-based access control (RBAC), and conditional access policies.
  • Oversee security frameworks such as Zero Trust and ensure compliance with ISO 27001, GDPR, and internal policies.
  • Design and implement policies for Azure AD, Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
  • Lead workshops and roadmap developments for M365 security, endpoint management, and device security.
  • Ensure seamless integration and optimisation of M365 applications, including SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Exchange Online.
  • Establish governance and compliance policies for cloud data management.
  • Drive AI and automation adoption in Azure, leveraging cognitive services and automation tools.
  • Automate cloud deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) with Terraform, ARM templates, and Azure DevOps.
  • Implement threat detection and response solutions using Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, and Microsoft 365 Defender.
  • Work with cybersecurity teams to enhance threat intelligence and vulnerability management.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for Azure, mentoring junior engineers and IT staff.
  • Conduct workshops, training sessions, and documentation to enhance cloud knowledge across the organisation.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud security.
  • Expertise in Azure AD, Microsoft Entra, Identity Protection, Conditional Access, MFA, and PIM.
  • Strong experience with M365, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Teams administration.
  • Knowledge of Azure Policy, Compliance Manager, Microsoft Purview, and data security frameworks.
  • Experience with AI, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) technologies.
  • Proven expertise in Zero Trust security architecture and hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking, including VNet, ExpressRoute, VPNs, SD-WAN, private endpoints, and firewalls.
  • Experience implementing Azure security solutions, including Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, and Defender for Endpoint.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, or Terraform.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
