Security & Internet Services Engineer

Our client is seeking a Security and Internet Services Engineer to take responsibility for the active management, support, design and development of their security and Internet services estate. This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) can be based in Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of operational, maintenance and provisioning procedures to ensure the security infrastructure remains robust, resilient and aligned with business and customer needs.

Job Duties:

  • Manage the SIEM platform
  • Manage the firewall estate
  • Manage the Linux server estate
  • Maintain public DNS services (Authoritative and Recursive)
  • Oversee SSL certificate lifecycles
  • Maintain monitoring and alerting tools
  • Conduct vulnerability management and mitigation
  • Produce and maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation, such as operational procedures
  • Work with the Security Architect to review assets, identify weaknesses and ensure appropriate security is maintained
  • Support implementation of the overall security strategy
  • Assist in responding to potential threats, weaknesses, attacks or breaches including mitigation and vulnerability response
  • Investigate security alerts and provide incident response support
  • Support integration of security technologies and tools across systems
  • Maintain secure configuration and latest patch management practices
  • Generate reports for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Contribute to the design, operation and ongoing maintenance of evolving security systems
  • Liaise with stakeholders and support internal audits
  • Participate fully in the standby and call-out rota, including off-Island travel when required
  • Supervise or coordinate other team members, consultants, suppliers or contractors as needed
  • Attain and maintain at least one relevant technical professional qualification

Job Requirements:

  • Experience operating and maintaining Check Point firewalls (a relevant Check Point qualification is highly desirable)
  • Experience with security technologies such as intrusion prevention systems, vulnerability scanning, patch management, log correlation and SIEM
  • Experience administering Linux operating systems
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Highly motivated, well organised and methodical
  • Ability to produce accurate, high-quality work
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience administering DNS servers (BIND or PowerDNS preferred)
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux (desirable)
  • Familiarity with vulnerability and patch management platforms such as Qualys (desirable)
  • Experience managing VMWare environments (desirable)
  • Quick to learn and demonstrate interest in evolving technologies
  • Strong customer focus and professional appearance
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills when engaging with internal and external contacts
  • Flexible and willing to work unsociable hours when required, including standby cover and emergency troubleshooting
